Re: 1958 Plymouth Fury CHRISTINE!!!

Sorry I haven't been around and for missing the club show.... I've been focusing every free minute I have on the car and getting her together. Thanks to Dave the motor is back in. I've said it before and I'll say it again... DAVE IS THE BEST! If it weren't for him there would be no progress made. He...

Re: 1958 Plymouth Fury CHRISTINE!!!

So after a total tear down and magnafluxing of the heads and block we found zilch... No cracks or areas of concern anywhere. The piston isn't cracked and is just scratched. A new gasket set has been ordered and once reassembled it's off for Dyno-testing. Hopefully that will reveal any issues prior t...

Re: 1958 Plymouth Fury CHRISTINE!!!

So far we've got more questions than answers. Pressure testing didn't reveal any cracks or leaks. The freeze plug that blew out did it again twice under pressure and it was determined that the hole is oversized. After installing a larger plug she sealed and checked out ok at 40 psi... Neither head g...

Re: 1958 Plymouth Fury CHRISTINE!!!

Thanks Pete! I'll keep that in mind. Sucks this happened alright. I was really hoping to get her out this year. All I can do now is wait until we find out the extent of the damage... UNLESS DAVE WORKS ANOTHER MIRACLE THAT IS!!! LOL... I gotta tell you guys... In all honesty he's like "Car Jesus" or ...

Re: 1958 Plymouth Fury CHRISTINE!!!

Not yet Clint. I'm hoping to get the motor pulled today or tomorrow. Dave was kind enough to offer his help so I feel a bit more confident that we can get the job done. Gonna try tonight. As for the fan I tend to agree with you on the shroud. I may try it without one first and see how that works. Ju...

Re: 1958 Plymouth Fury CHRISTINE!!!

I'm going to take this "opportunity" to make a few needed changes. Had anyone had any luck with electric cooling fans? There's very little clearance for my radiator fan and I have no doubt it's going to be a problem down the road. Does an electric fan have to have a shroud? Is it ok if it doesn't co...

Re: 2001 SS Suspension upgrade

Wow Dave I'm sorry to hear this! Glad everyone is OK. This winter and the cold temps just won't let go. That totally sucks! Will you consider rebuilding her?

Re: 1958 Plymouth Fury CHRISTINE!!!

Thanks guys. Sucks... I was planning on tearing things down this weekend with the predicted 60 degree weather. Course that plan went to hell pretty quick with this cold.

Re: 1958 Plymouth Fury CHRISTINE!!!

Pretty low right now folks... Sadly, there's been a major setback in the saga to build this beast. I encountered a catastrophic engine failure this past week. Long story short, I fired up Christine for the first time this year and after warming up I revved the engine and blew a freeze plug out of th...

Thanks Dave! You know me... I'm all about working around your schedule. Plus, I need to have you explain what you did with the exhaust manifolds we talked about. The coating on mine failed miserably.

Re: 1958 Plymouth Fury CHRISTINE!!!

Even though it's only February I'm chompin at the bit to get going on the car. I ordered a remanufactured PS gear box because I'm having issues with mine that go beyond a quick fix. The "Plan" is to switch it out once the weather gets warm enough and then kidnap Dave to change out the rear leafs (on...

Sorry I missed it. We had my son's first reconciliation retreat to attend. I hope everyone had a good time. From what I hear it's a nice place. :)

Interesting story...

As you guys surely know these last few days have been brutal with the cold. I awoke yesterday morning to find that the furnace had quit. After a quick inspection I saw that the draft inducer motor had seized. This happened once before about 8 years ago. I decided to call our local furnace parts supp...

Re: 1958 Plymouth Fury CHRISTINE!!!

Thanks Dave & Pete! I was fortunate to have Dave swing by and check out a few things. There's nothing like having a seasoned professional mechanic look things over. Dave was quick to point out some things that needed addressing beyond his buttoning up of the transmission coolant lines. I'm very appr...

Re: 1958 Plymouth Fury CHRISTINE!!!

After waiting several weeks I got the call that the Oval Air cleaners were finished and fully restored. Took my breath away when I got home and put them on. I just had to see what it looked like! LOL Nothing beats original OEM parts brought back to better than new condition. ;) I had no intentions o...

Re: 1958 Plymouth Fury CHRISTINE!!!

Thanks Guys! Glad you approve. :) At this point Pete I'm not setting anymore deadlines. My hope is to have Dave come next spring to assist in wrapping up the disc brake conversion and I will continue putting on the trim from there. The interior is going to be very expensive and I need to save my pen...
