Talked to Dave this morning at his work and he mentioned helping with Christine. Can't believe what happened. SO sorry Wayne. I know how painstakingly careful you were with everything. Taking your time, doing it right.

Couldn't agree more with Clint. You need a large shroud that cover the whole backend of the radiator. On my 69' stock Dart GT with the 318 it came with a rather small rad. People would ask me if I changed it out and I told them "No that's what it came with". She always ran hot. If I were stuck in any traffic I'd pray as I kept one eye on the temp gauge. A Mopar guy at a cruise nite suggested I add a shroud ( it didn't have one) . I was a bit skeptical but I can't tell you how much it helped ! It directed that cooling air right where it was supposed to go, on the engine ! HUGE difference.

Thanks Pete! I'll keep that in mind. Sucks this happened alright. I was really hoping to get her out this year. All I can do now is wait until we find out the extent of the damage...

UNLESS DAVE WORKS ANOTHER MIRACLE THAT IS!!! LOL...

I gotta tell you guys... In all honesty he's like "Car Jesus" or something. LOL. I've been sweating bullets about pulling this motor and figured it would take all night. Dave got to deal with the nightmare traffic and got here about 6:10 tonight. He took control of pulling it and posed for this picture at 7:00PM!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He's an amazingly fast and efficient mechanic not to mention good friend to all of us. He saved me so much time and stress tonight it goes beyond words! THANKS BROTHER DAVE!!!!

It was no big deal. Wayne did the hard work. Once he had all the accessories and the radiator was out, the rest is just a few bolts and a little prying action.

Just hope it turns out to be something cheap to repair.

So far we've got more questions than answers. Pressure testing didn't reveal any cracks or leaks. The freeze plug that blew out did it again twice under pressure and it was determined that the hole is oversized. After installing a larger plug she sealed and checked out ok at 40 psi...

Neither head gasket was blown and no cylinders or heads were washed out by coolant.

One piston has what looks like a possible scratch or crack on the top so it will be magnafluxed and checked.

The heads pressure tested ok as well.

At this stage I have to decide if I want to do a total tear down and mag the block and heads again or just put her back together and give it a whirl on the dyno. Turns out the break in oil is green and I wasn't aware of that. Perhaps I overreacted after the freeze plug blew and assumed there was coolant in the block from the color? Still, doesn't explain the high level on the dipstick. Could it have been overfilled?

Decisions... Decisions... :?

So after a total tear down and magnafluxing of the heads and block we found zilch... No cracks or areas of concern anywhere. The piston isn't cracked and is just scratched. A new gasket set has been ordered and once reassembled it's off for Dyno-testing. Hopefully that will reveal any issues prior to reinstallation. ;)

Glad there was no major damage. That’s good news.
Still a mystery as to what happened though.

Sorry I haven't been around and for missing the club show.... I've been focusing every free minute I have on the car and getting her together. Thanks to Dave the motor is back in. I've said it before and I'll say it again... DAVE IS THE BEST! If it weren't for him there would be no progress made. He put the motor in quicker than when he took it out. About 40 minutes to be exact. Then he was kind enough to put on the starter, exhaust manifolds and attach the exhaust. Once I get all the engine accessories on, steering column in and front clip on I can fire her up and get her running again. From there we need to address the rear axle bearings and rear brakes and it's GO TIME! Thanks Dave!

Engine looks good back in the car.
Hopefully we’ll all be able to hit up the shows next summer.
