Speaking of cruising it. Diana was out side when I came home last night, she couldn't stop laughing! She can't understand why I'm only a year older than her, but enjoy driving a stock 4 door with wire spoke wheel covers and jamming to Oldies on the radio. LOL!

I figured you'd get a laugh out of that Pete. LOL!

Well, I think I might have made some progress. I was messing around Sunday and was checking the power and ground circuits. Couldn't find any fault with the power side. Relay is working, PCM isn't turning it off, Proper resistance and no broken connections. So IT was then check the grounds. Traced all the grounds, cleaned them and rechecked them. Still couldn't find any issues. So I put it all back together and started it. Never stalled. Left it at the garage and did a few other things. Tonite after shooting, I swung over and picked it up. Started it and drove it home. Never stalled.

Maybe it was all just a dirty ground? Time will tell..

I have been driving the Olds since the truck has been down and the tires on the 01 are getting pretty bad.

So When I went to lunch yesterday, An older black man checked out the car. He liked it and offered to buy it from me. LOL! I obviously said no, and told him the story and he said he applauded my effort for keeping a car that is "off the wall"

Well, after a month of messing with the car, I finally tracked down the cause of the stalling. The new fuel pump I installed was internally shorted. This past week, I could barely move the car up and down the driveway. So last night I dropped the tank again, installed a new pump and it's been perfect since.

Took it through the car wash tonight. I love the stupid car!!!

Sucks when new parts are the issue. You don't think to check them cause they're new.
Glad you figured it out.

Yeah! It's frustrating! But I'm glad it's fixed. Hoping this weekend I can finish detailing it and get it in the garage at Mom's

Well, Not a happy camper right now.

A couple weeks ago I took the Olds for a ride and she started misfiring. Then started smoking from the exhaust.

Turns out the upper intake Plenum cracked and started pumping coolant into the intake. No big deal, My buddy at Dorman sent me a new one. Took me about an hour and a half tonight to swap it out. But then the problems started.

While cranking it started to pop out the exhaust. Stopped cranking and checked the ignition wires thinking maybe I crossed them. Nope! Made sure everything was connected properly. Started to crank it again and BANG!!! It backfired so bad the muffler is split wide open!

Then it started raining and was getting dark so I gave up. I will attack it again tomorrow. Just not happy right now

Sorry to hear of the Olds problems. What could cause a backfire that bad?

Could the timing have gotten messed up?

The timing isn't adjustable so don't think that's the issue. I think it might be the spark plugs, they are coolant fouled and might be igniting on the waste spark when the exhaust valve is open. I will work on it later this week when I have time.

I need to order the muffler soon too.

Well, I'm happy to report, Saturday I got Olds running again! It's loud as hell, but runs great!

I replaced the spark plugs, cleaned the throttle body and she fired right away. Now I have to change the oil, bleed to coolant and replaced the muffler that looks like a taco shell currently.

After that I plan on driving it a little bit before it goes away for the winter at Mom's. Once there it will be easier for me to take her shopping or wherever instead of having to take the black car out in the snow.

Did a quick detail today, sadly found a couple new scratches and rust spots.

Really planned on getting started with the body work this year, but with the 01 SS torn apart and my truck making all kinds of racket, I've had to drive it almost daily.

Good thing it gets killer gas mileage! Took less than quarter tank all week
