'88 Monte SS Green Machine

Post by Donutboy97 » Tue Feb 23, 2016 12:53 pm

Well, it's been a while since Ive been on the forums, and I guess I never had a build thread. I will have to go back and update for all the mods that have been done, but I think my latest mod may just be my biggest (it's definitely the most expensive).

Gone will be the original 305 and thanks to Dave for bending over backwards    picked up my new Blueprint 355

I'll get pics up later...

What are you doing with the old 305? I just picked up a '84 trans am and am debating getting it back on the road. It's got a 305 that's been sitting with the top end off for years.

Pretty sure I now have all the parts for the swap. I will start assembly this week to get it ready for the swap. Really hoping the weather stays warm for a bit.

Saturday is the day! Hoping the weather will be decent.

Already have the water pump and the balancer installed. I have to take the fuel pump plate and pushrod out of my old motor and get that cleaned and installed Tuesday along with the fuel pump.

I've got training classes Monday, Wednesday and Thursday this week. So It's going to be a long week for me. I'll be pretty beat by Sunday, LOL!

Well, the weather held out and the motor installation went fairly smooth. BUT, as always some things just don't go as planned. Some of the parts were not right which put us behind a bit. And there were some coolant plugs and bolts that just wouldn't come out. But we managed around it. Took 11 hours from start to firing it. Then a few more hours taking care of small issues like leaks and misfires. Put everything back together and added some re enforcement bars to the rad support and the rear frame. All in all, it went pretty good. Tim will post some pics when he gets a chance. Were both pretty beat

That's good news. You'll always run into some issues but sounds like they were pretty minor.
Tim must be pretty excited.

It was a challenge, but lots of fun too. I will have to make a few adjustments after Tim gets some miles on it.

I'm pretty sure Tim has lost any thoughts of becoming a mechanic after this weekend, LOL!
